Susan\nBrown director of the Center for better\nbones you know every once in a while I\ntake a few minutes to answer your\nquestions we have lots of questions\ncoming through the website many\nquestions we receive on our blog and I'm\ngoing to try to answer a few for you\ntoday like some of the questions that I\nreceived a long time ago one really\ninteresting from New Zealand asking\nabout dairy and their question is\nthey've heard that dairy is acidifying\nand it really shouldn't be used because\nit creates the acid condition so we\nshouldn't use it for bone another person\nwrites to me and says what's the latest\nnews on dairy for bone health but what I\nwant to tell you is it in our opinion\nhere at the Centre for better bones\ndairy can be a very good food if you\ndigest it well it is only slightly\nacidic as all proteins are acidic and\ndairy has some protein but it's only\nslightly acidic it's not as acid forming\nas meats or some of the beans or other\nhigher protein food if you look at it\naround the world there's many cultures\nwhere dairy is really highly used and\nhighly appreciated it has a good country\nthere's a lot of protein to the diet a\nlot of minerals a lot of phosphorus and\nif you get fermented dairy like say\nyogurt or kefir buttermilk that gives a\nwonderful probiotic boost in fact the\nresearch that I wrote about recently in\nthe blog was people who habitually ate\nyogurt seem to have better bone density\nso I think dairies fine the problem is\nthat our digestion for so many of us is\na week and we don't digest dairy well\nand so we have to avoid it one of my\ncolleagues John do yard who is a\nspecialist in Ayurvedic medicine in his\nbook he called it eat wheat and his\nargument is that we should be able to\neat wheat and dairy but if we have weak\ndigestion we can't eat it so part of the\nsolution is correcting the digestion and\nnot just avoiding those hard to digest\nfoods all that being said you may be a\nvegetarian\nyou may develop a fine diet without\ndairy but I would not stop dairy just\nbecause of its slight acid load because\nwe still need acid forming foods we\nstill need proteins we just need those\nin balance with the alkaline forming\nfoods so another person wanted to know\nwhat the latest is I'm Dairy well what I\nwould say\nI think dairy can be a fine foods\nespecially fermented dairy but I don't\nthink dairy is going to solve a bone\nhealth problem in fact there's all kinds\nof research over decades where they\ntried to prove that taking high dairy\nwould correct a bone situation would\nactually correct osteoporosis and it\njust didn't prove positive unless the\nperson were extremely low saying 200\nmilligrams of calcium a day then taking\ndairy might boost you up a little it's\nnot a bad part of a mixed diet at all\nseveral people are writing about mk7 you\nknow that form of vitamin K one of the K\ntools as you might remember vitamin k1\nis produced by bacteria by in the green\nleafy vegetables and we get k1 and all\nthe greens and k2 is produced by\nbacteria a particular type of k2 we call\nmk7 that's often produced by fermented\nsoy that is extremely good at activating\nthe protein that prevents arterial\ncalcification and activating the","thumbnailUrl":["https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/dbex_B2kw1k\/default.jpg","https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/dbex_B2kw1k\/mqdefault.jpg","https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/dbex_B2kw1k\/hqdefault.jpg","https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/dbex_B2kw1k\/sddefault.jpg","https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/dbex_B2kw1k\/maxresdefault.jpg"],"uploadDate":"2018-08-06T19:55:29+00:00","duration":"PT10M21S","embedUrl":"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dbex_B2kw1k","publisher":{"@type":"Organization","@id":"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCm6Zry9uGdrZpm05sQLIxMw#Organization","url":"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCm6Zry9uGdrZpm05sQLIxMw","name":"Dr. Susan E.
