My green drink challenge

By 12 years ago

Several women have been talking to me about how to change out acid-producing foods for alkaline-producing items by adding green drinks to their menu plans. They love being able to experiment with different combinations to find which ones suit their taste best. And they appreciate how simple it is to help them get my recommended 9-10 servings a day of vegetables and fruit.

As both a bone health nutritionist and someone who likes to test things, I welcomed the chance to break out the blender and try the tips and recipes that Better Bones readers have sent me.

Here is one tasty, fruity green drink developed by my client Maia:

The Green Monster

1 cup OJ

1/2 cup frozen pineapple

1/4 cup frozen mango

1/2 cup water

One BIG hand full of baby spinach or tender kale (depending on the size of your hand you may need two handfuls)

Mix in your blender until it’s nice and smooth.

I agree that Maia’s drink is delicious, but seeing that it largely fruit based, I challenged myself to see if I could develop a tasty, mostly vegetable green drink. To see my concoctions, check out my video and the recipe:

Dr. Brown’s “Veggie” Green Monster

1/2 cup mixed greens

1 1/2 stalks celery

1/4 cup diced cucumbers

1/8 cup fresh parsley

1 small apple, cored

2 tsp fresh lime juice

2 tsp fresh lemon juice

1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger

1/2 tsp lime zest

1 1/4 cup coconut water

Mix in blender.

If you have an even better, tastier, recipe for a green veggie drink post it here in the comments section below and you will be entered for a drawing to win a copy of my Acid-Alkaline Food Guide book. I’m eager to hear from you!
